Starting at Target fresh out of college, I learned how to apply my apparel design knowledge to business. From my time as a Sourcing Analyst, I learned the importance of production timing, development calendars, vendor relationships, costing, and reacting to sales. This foundation made me a strong Designer, able to work effectively on a cross-functional product development team. During my five years as a Designer at Target, I worked on many categories including cut-and-sew knits, outerwear, swimwear, and fully-fashioned sweaters.
Designer II: Women’s Sweaters, June 2013 – May 2014
Designed women's (RTW) sweaters for Target's modern classic brand, focused on core and must-have sweaters.
Owned seasonal design of the largest revenue-generating program on the RTW floorpad: the Merona Favorite Cardigan and Favorite Pullover.
Brought innovation to the Favorite Cardigan, a traditionally solid, heather, and print driven item. I designed into yarn-dye jacquards, which resulted in both better quality and better margin.
Captained Down-Time-Knit calendar for RTW Design, working with merchant and sourcing captains to navigate early, off-season production timing.
Took part in the omnichannel strategy for Target.com, being part of the first group of internal, owned-brand designers to design for both stores and .com.
Designer I: Women’s Cut & Sew Knits, Dec 2011 – June 2013
Designed women's cut-and-sew knits for Target's modern classic brand, focused on core tees/tanks and casual sportswear.
Owned seasonal design of the largest volume program on the RTW floorpad: the Merona Ultimate Tee.
Associate Designer: Women’s Outerwear and Swimwear, Nov 2009 – Dec 2011
Researched and designed into upcoming trends for women’s outerwear and swim through market intelligence, lifestyle needs, runway recaps, trend forecast reports, and guest insights.
Designed contemporary, junior, and modern classic outerwear including concept, color, and silhouette, while working within margin goals and collaborating with Senior Designer.
Partnered with buyers and vendors to curate assortments and merchandising for modern classic and contemporary swim. Target was a market-share leader in women’s swimwear at this time.
Sourcing Business Analyst, June 2007 – Nov 2009
Managed production execution of all knit programs of Target’s contemporary brand.
Collaborated with cross-functional team of designers, fabric specialists, product managers, and buyers to deliver quality goods to the stores on time.
Communicated daily with overseas offices and vendors to negotiate costs, contingency plans, and reaction to sales.
